Ali Rashid Alipah from the Brunei Darussalam National Judo Federation participated and declared: "I am here as part of the ASEAN Jita Kyoei Project organized by the Kodokan Judo Institute and the Japan Foundation Asia Centre. This is my first time to come here to Abiko City and I can see why Kano Shihan adored it with it’s amazing scenery and peaceful atmosphere. This year on the occasion of Kano Shihan’s birthday celebration, the International Judo Federation for World Judo Day has set the theme of ‘Plant a tree’. The IJF recognizes that our world is in danger of becoming uninhabitable if we do not take action right now. And so, this year’s theme aims to coordinate a global effort within the international judo community to help ensure a better future for our children. Today on behalf of our ASEAN Judo family, I would like to thank the Mayor of Abiko City, Kodokan and the Japan Foundation, for providing this golden opportunity to contribute to this noble cause here in this fine city. Although we come from different nations, Kano Shihan said that while we ourselves prosper, others should also prosper and that must be our ideal for living in society. This is the essence of JITA KYOEI. We hope that our efforts here will contribute to the global effort in making the world a better place for our children and look forward to seeing the tree(s) grow beside the future commemoration statue of Kano Shihan that will be appreciated and enjoyed by all in the many years to come."
